I feel honoured to send a Messages on the occasion of publishing of First Book of the King Edward Medical University (formerly King Edward Medical College), Lahore. Our long cherished dream has come true. This idea was conceived as far back as early 70’s propagated thro three decades and finally realized in 2006 with untiring efforts of the students and members of the faculty.
The College has a very rich heritage of producing outstanding medical graduates who take pride in serving the humanity at par with the very best. I hope that with the elevation to the status of a University, we will not only emulate this but exceed it as well.
The faculty and the Board of Management are aware of their new responsibilities in the future, as they have to face new challenges on the national and international horizons with continuous advances in the field of medicine and its allied specialties.
This College has been the Premier Institution of the Subcontinent, I hope and pray that we are able to maintain its status among medical university as well.

Meyo Hospital
Mayo Hospital was completed in 1870 and it started patient care in 1871. It was named after the Earl of Mayo, the then Viceroy and the Governor General of India.
Encompassing over 54.6 acres of land and the main building with boundary having 11 gates, the hospital is one of the largest hospitals in South East Asia and is a centre of excellence for public benefit. It had bed capacity of 300 beds on the Day of Independence (1947) but now is extended up to 2399 beds. The father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah also paid tribute to services rendered by this hospital on his visit to Mayo Hospital dated 19.03.1940.
Mayo Hospital is located in the heart of Lahore City and is surrounded by busy commercial and thickly populated residential areas with famous Anarkali Bazaar, Nila Gumbad, Gawalmandi and the Walled City of Old Lahore around it.
Earlier, after its construction in 1871, the Mayo Hospital was affiliated as a teaching hospital with the King Edward Medical College which came into being in 1860. The hospital was used to be managed by the Medical Superintendent under the administrative control of Government till 1999 when the whole setup was declared as Autonomous Medical Institution and the Mayo Hospital became Allied Hospital of King Edward Medical College. The Principal KEMC and the M.S. Mayo Hospital were placed under the administrative control of a newly created post of Chief Executive. In 2002, the Board of Governors took over the charge of the institution under PMHI Ordinance 2002, according to which the posts of Principal Executive Officer (PEO) / Dean and Deputy Dean were created. In the next year 2003, under another PMHI Ordinance 2003, the Board of Governors was replaced with the Board of Management under which Principal KEMC was declared Head of Institution consisting of KEMC & Mayo Hospital.


COLLEGE OF PHYSIOTHERAPHY
The School of Physiotherapy KEMU/Mayo Hospital, Lahore was established in 1985. B.Sc. Physiotherapy (4 Years course) was introduced in 1999 in this School .Now the physiotherapy is a five years program that is the Doctor of physiotherapy (DPT) attached with King Edward medical university. The overall mission of the School of Physiotherapy is to establish a centre of excellence in the medical sciences and technology which would be an agent of change and the role model for other institutions to emulate. It serves to attract the maximum possible talent for its upgrading. The school hopes to provide graduates in Physiotherapy who would distinguish themselves with their professional, humanistic and educational standards by the virtue of their organizational skills. They should be able to respond to the needs and problems of the patients while maintaining international standards. The school of Physiotherapy has been established to educate young men and women, the principles and appreciation of their responsibility to the society. The academic program of the School is demanding and will require applied physical and intellectual energy. Graduates of this School are in great demand for appointment in National and Private Hospitals, Rehabilitation Centers, Clinics and institutions of Physically Handicapped, Industrial Centers and foreign countries. The aim of the School of Physiotherapy is to produce efficiently trained and specialized young men and women who can render their services as Physiotherapists, to the national need.


Lahore School Of Nursing
Lahore School of Nursing & Midwifery (LSN&M) was incepted in year 2010 with a few faculty members headed by a Principal. The school was established with the sole aim to produce graduate nurses to cope with the dearth of nursing professional in the world in general and in Pakistan in particular. Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) after thread bare inspection of LSN&M has been pleased to recognize this institution in its first visit.

Lady Aitchison Hospital Lahore
Lady Aitchison Hospital, Lahore was established in February 15, 1887 outside the walled city of Lahore which has now become the most thickly populated area of the city. It was named after the Lord wife of Governor of British Rule, Lady Aitchison.
Over the years, the hospital has expanded to 200 beds and has become first choice of maternity care for people of a vast catchment area spread beyond provincial boundaries. Lady Aitchison Hospital is affiliated with the most prestigious and historical institution that is “Kind Edward Medical University” Lahore in 1999 and is tertiary care teaching hospital with staff strength of 488. The hospital is over burdened with a large number of expecting mothers and patients of Gynecological ailments which range from 200 to 300 in OPD, 100 to 150 in emergency and 35 to 40 births in a day.


Lady WillingDon Hospital
Its history dates back to 1930 when Teka Devi Health Centre was opened as an outpatient clinic for women on the Fort Road. In 1933, Lt. Col. S. N. Hayes, laid the foundation stone of Lady Willingdon Hospital, naming it after the wife of the 22nd Viceroy of India. He became the hospital's first Medical Superintendent and was also one of the former Principals of King Edward Medical College). The Hospital was affiliated with King Edward Medical College, Lahore that same year. It has been a teaching institution since 1933 attracting under-graduate, post-graduate and post-fellowship doctors. It is fully recognised for training by the HEC, PMDC, CPSP and the RCOG, UK. [1]
